If something changes ...

(eg: LUN -> Host mapping) it might be possible to execute reboot -- -r twice. After the first reboot sometimes no volume is visible

If after second reboot no device is visible it might be necessary to remove /etc/symsm/mnf. The output of /usr/lib/symsm/bin/hot_add will indicat that.

After changing the the Family Set Field in /etc/opt/SUNWsamfs/mcf it is necessary to run samfsck -R -F <volume name>

the Equipment Ordinal Field in /etc/opt/SUNWsamfs/mcf should be uniq ... at least in the future

Add new host to storage array

  • add WWN's to db (hbainvent)
  • create host script: mksanhostscr <host> > <host>.scr
  • SMcli sevenofnine -p <passwd> -f <host>.scr
  • SMcli threeofnine -p <passwd> -f <host>.scr

Howto change to mirror volume

  • change the role of the volume (SMclient)
  • check for correct host lun maping (access for mirror volume, no access for the old volume)
  • disable entries in /etc/vfstab on affected hosts
  • # reboot -- -r
  • check for new device name and change in /etc/vfstab and /etc/opt/SUNWsamfs/mcf
  • # samd config
  • # reboot

Starting from scratch

  • on every console (serial) enter sysWipe
  • this destoys anything immediately but net config and Premium Features will not be lost.
Now you have a storage virgin.
  • net config can be viewed with netCfgShow and changed with netCfgSet
  • add all devices (controller) to Management Console and rename them.
  • apply host lists
    SMcli <storage device> -f /home/admin/san/createhosts.scr
  • change tray order (not as important)
  • enable media scan
  • enable RVM on both storage systems
  • define hot spares

Misc

/usr/local/bin/sanmonitor on reload collects switch throughput and storage profiles ... not essential but useful
